Representatives of YTI’s D.C. chapter joined with Young Professionals in Foreign Policy (YPFP) at the EU Parliament’s Liaison Office in the U.S. capital. The group met Antoine Ripoll, head of the office and longtime member of the European Parliament (EP) to discuss the results of the May 22 election and its implication for transatlantic relations. Ripoll introduced the changes produced in the EP as a result of the election, particularly the growth of marginal, single-issue parties such as the European Pirate Party, however the discussion took many turns as participants weighed in with opinions and questions, both challenging and supporting Ripoll’s narrative. YTI and YPFP members later mulled over these ideas at Georgetown sports bar McFaddens.
