Vom 20. bis zum 21. Juli lud die Junge Union NRW wieder zur jährlich stattfindenden Summer University ein, dieses Mal nach Bad Salzuflen in Ostwestfalen. Nach der Begrüßung durch den Landesvorsitzenden Paul Ziemiak und einem Bericht aus Brüssel und Berlin von den Abgeordneten Elmar Brok und Steffen Kampeter startete das breit gefächerte Seminarangebot und lud ein, verschiedene aktuelle Themen zu diskutieren.
Zusammen mit Peter Beyer, MdB, durfte David Stock im Rahmen des Seminars „Die USA, Deutschland und Europa – Neues von der transatlantischen Partnerschaft“ über TTIP, PRISM, Präsident Obamas Besuch in Berlin und andere aktuelle Angelegenheiten referieren und darüber hinaus die Initiative junger Transatlantiker und ihre Arbeit vorstellen. Neben ausführlichen Diskussionen insbesondere über die Chancen, die TTIP für die europäisch-amerikanischen Beziehungen bietet, wurden die Ziele und der Aufbau der IjT lang und eingehend diskutiert, gerade mit Blick auf die Rolle der jungen Generation bei der Gestaltung der transatlantischen Partnerschaft in der Zukunft.

The IYT at the “Junge Union” North Rhine – Westphalia Summer University

From July 20th to 21st, the “Junge Union” (the CDU equivalent of the Young Democrats respective Republicans), hosted their annual Summer University program in Bad Salzuflen in East Westphalia. After the opening address by state party chair Paul Ziemiak, and reports from Brussels and Berlin delivered by the delegates Elmar Brok and Steffen Kampeter, a comprehensive seminar session started, providing ample opportunity to discuss current issues.
David Stock in conjunction with Peter Beyer (MdB) was fortunate to be presenting on “The USA, Germany, and Europe – News Concerning the Transatlantic Partnership.” He covered a wide range of issues, such as the TTIP, PRISM, and President Obama’s Berlin visit. Additionally, he was also afforded the opportunity to present the Initiative of Young Transatlantics and its work. Besides thorough discussions of possible opportunities the TTIP may yield for American-European relations, the goals and organization of the IYT also were a central part of the conversation. This aspect especially focused on the role of the young generation in designing the future transatlantic partnership.
This post shall also serve as an opportunity to sincerely thank the Junge Union of North Rhine – Westphalia for the organization of this event, as well as for the plethora of interesting conversations that resulted.
