Unter dem Titel „The Future of American Power“ reisten unsere Mitglieder Moritz Wargalla, Niklas Anzinger, Julian Hinz und Jacob Schrot in der vergangenen Woche zum IAPSS World Congress nach Thessaloniki, Griechenland, um mit einem eigenen Panel auf der größten Konferenz für Studenten der Politikwissenschaft den transatlantischen Gedanken gemeinsam zu vertreten. Wir haben auf der Grundlage umfangreicher Conference Paper die allgegenwärtige These hinterfragt, dass Amerika sich im „Decline“ befindet. Mit Hilfe der Einbindung von Analysen der Soft Power, Hard Power, Currency Power und Trade Power Amerikas kamen wir zum Ergebnis: der Mythos vom Abstieg Amerikas ist so alt wie Amerika selbst. Bei der nüchternen Betrachtung des Zustandes unserer geopolitischen Landkarte lässt sich eine andere Realität ableiten: die USA bleiben ein gewichtiger Akteur in der Welt. Under the title “The Future of American Power,” YTI-members Moritz Wargalla, Niklas Anzinger, Julian Hinz und Jacob Schrot participated in the IAPSS World Congress in Thessaloniki, Greece, throughout the past week. We were more than happy to host an own panel to tackle the assumption that America is in decline. Analyzing categories of Soft Power, Hard Power, Currency Power and Trade Power, we came to the conclusion that it is very hard to maintain the thesis that the United States are in an overall retreat from global affairs. Quite the opposite is true: considering the facts and numbers, there is no evidence for a major erosion of the current geopolitical map which the U.S. has shaped. We would like to express our gratitude to the entire IAPSS organizing committee for giving us the chance to participate in this fabulous conference!
