Members of the Initiative junger Transatlantiker / Young Transatlantic Initiative followed a panel on “Privacy, Security, and You” at the opening of the 51st Munich Security Conference. For this event, the U.S. Consulate General Munich and the Amerikahaus München brought together notable representatives from German and U.S. politics, security experts, and journalists to debate transatlantic approaches to cyber security and data protection. The participants included Lieutenant General Frederick B. Hodges (Commander, United States Army in Europe), Christopher Painter (Cyber Coordinator in the U.S. State Department), Clemens Binninger (Member of the German Bundestag and Chairman of the Parliamentary Control Committee), as well as journalist Georg Mascolo. The Chairman of the Conference and former ambassador Wolfgang Ischinger welcomed the guests and stressed to the remarkable reputation of the think-tank conference as the most relevant event in security and foreign policy worldwide.This year, the event was not just organized as a panel discussion. The audience had the opportunity to ask questions, and those following the discussion via livestream could participate on twitter.
